sScale is a system for automated measurement of stacks of wood. It is a system that operates on entire stacks of wood situated in the forest or at wood storage facilities. sScale is mounted on a car or on a forest machine and it is operated from a computer. sScale produces a list of features as for example, stack ID, species, volume percentage, mean diameter, diameter distribution and other size measures such as net and gross volume of the individual stacks at an accuracy in the order of 2%. sScale replaces semi-automated and manual measurement practices. sScale is:

Fast and easy to operate.
Reliable in all kind of environments and weather.
Mounted with a wireless data transfer module i.e., free from usual manualt data handling.
It is cost-efficient - even compared to measurement costs at large production facilities.

Total measuring cost is less than €0.5 per cubic meter solid wood according to experience in Scandinavia and Germany. "Total" include system lease, wages, rent of 4x4 vehicle and all other that is required in the measurement operation.

The system can be used 24 hours a day: Using the system 8 hours a day 4-5 times a week, will under normal conditions result in driving 80-100.000 km and measuring 250-300.000 m3 solid wood per year.

Camera rig

In the left Figures a vehicle with a camera rig mounted on the roof rack and a close-up of the ramera rig displays the main component of the mobile sScale client. This construction makes a "drive by a stack without stopping" measurement operation possible - and fast as well.

Internal 3D stack representation

The sScale system automatically calculate the total stack volume and a 3D representation of the stack is stored in the computer. The accuracy of the measurements have among others been tested by the independent National Measurement Council in Sweden leading to a formal approval of the system in Sweden and by Physicalish-Technishe Bundesanstalt (PTB/Eichamt) in Braunschweig, Germany.

Measurement results

An easy to handle touch screen located just at the right hand side of the driver makes the entire mesurement operation simple and smooth.

Web display

Data transfered wireles to the central webserver can easily be displayed and exported to any other system, say a local accounting system.

A license include among others access to manage users and access to define text based data formats.

Data formats can be designed in any way wanted, for example comma separated values (CSV), XML (ELDAT) or similar. Measurement and GPS data can freely be used in the design patterns.

Pricing options:

The sScale system can be leased on a monthly basis. The leasing period can be no less than two years except for an initial evaluation period of maximum six month.

In addition to the monthly lease a service agreement is offered. This offer serves as our help to any customer that need extra help in any ways, say for example extra education of users, and so on.
